About the Visit

Jonathan Auxier loves getting in front of students in grades K-8 and talking about books! He leverages his extensive theater background as actor, director, and playwright to delight readers with a unique one-man show complete with gags, games, reading, drawing, costumes, and yo-yo’s! His presentation is perfect for large auditoriums and draws on his own story as a former reluctant reader, the children’s books that inspired his own “strange stories for strange kids,” and what he’s reading and excited about now. There is a separate presentation for each of his four books that can be selected and tailored to the age of the audience.

Jonathan also offers a smaller writing workshop—“The Hero’s Journal”—for up to 30 students. This program is also a wonderful option for college students and MFA programs.

Testimonials

"An amazing, fantastic, captivating visit ... Jonathan brought such energy and enthusiasm to our students as he shared about his book -- the whole room was captivated, each and every student. If you have the opportunity to invite Jonathan to your school, jump at it." —Mary Ann Scheuer, Emerson Elementary

Jonathan's author visit was one of the best student assembly presentations I have seen in over twenty years of teaching. Students were laughing uproariously one minute and listening in rapt attention the next as Jonathan shared about his life as a writer. My kids are still talking about it weeks later, and teachers are absolutely thrilled that what he shared so memorably reinforced what we teach in the classroom.” —Glenda Howell, Rolling Hills Elementary
